Constructed under the reign of Louis XIV, the Canal du Midi is the oldest canal in Europe still being used. Designed by engineer Pierre-Paul Riquet, the waterway boasts outstanding features that are of exceptional historical value. UNESCO has ranked the Canal du Midi among its world heritage sites.
